HOW TO post a listing on the DVAA website
1. Allow yourself plenty of time.
Many art events are planned months in advance. Don't wait until the last minute to get your promotion out there to the public. This website is maintained by a volunteer web designer (who's paying customers take first priority). Allow two weeks from the time of submission for your posting to be listed.

2. Send copy created in an email. The quickest way to get a posting listed is to create your copy in email. Copy in Microsoft Word, InDesign, Quark Xpress, etc. all require extra work to undo the styles, decipher, download, translate, whatever. And that takes time. Time our volunteer web designer doesn't have. Create your copy for your art event in email. Email--whether your browser is Firefox, Safari, Chrome... or your email is AOL, Yahoo, Google... it's all "universal" and the easiest to turn into web copy. And it's VERY IMPORTANT: to create your copy in email. Copying your text from a Word document and pasting it into an email brings all the "bad things" with it. START in email (it's so easy to copy email and paste into Microsoft Word, InDesign, Quark Xpress, etc. for any posters or newsletters you want to create in addition).

3. Edit the "bad things."What are the "bad things," you ask? Word and similar applications create perfect punctuation and this form of text is not translatable to web copy. Web copy does not like perfect quotes. If a word needs to be in "quotes," use the INCH SYMBOL. Web copy does not like apostrophes. Use the FOOT SYMBOL for all apostrophes. Web copy does not like em-dashes. Use the DASH SYMBOL (-) or double dashes (--). Words with accent marks often don't read on all browsers. The word resume will be understood from the sentence it is place in, for example, applicants should submit a resume. and the meeting will resume after a break. So, please, edit "bad things" from your posting submissions.

Misspellings and other typos will not be corrected--it's important to proofread your own posting.

4. What to include. Postings on any website are initially read rather quickly. Keep your posting simple. WHO you are. WHAT you do. WHERE it will be happening. WHEN it will be happening. HOW long will it be (and how much will it cost), WHY this may be important (first time event, fund raiser, etc.) These are the important things to include. If there is more information such as a list of artists included, the bio of the artist, the artist's media details, etc. consider sending the viewers to another link (see next item) of the artist or the place where the event is taking place. If the viewer is interested in what they read in a "quick posting," they will follow the other links for more details and information.

5. Include websites. But remember to CHECK the link first. Websites can give your posting additional credibility and further information. But our volunteer web designer will not check all website links in each post. So, be sure these are correct.

6. Images can be included. They must be "web-ready," meaning 72 dpi. And no dimension--HEIGHT or WIDTH--should exceed 400 pixels. Our volunteer web designer will not accept any image that does not conform to these standards. Also, this is an art website viewed by all ages, nudity in the images WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
