The Board met on May 25, for an special meeting to discuss the leaking roof at Gallery 38. A secretary's report of the May 6 meeting was read, discussed and accepted. Edith did not present a treasurer's report because this was not a regularly scheduled meeting.
The most urgent matter was the leaking roof. Gary and Annette had met briefly with Jay prior to his leaving for vacation. This portion of the meeting ended up being a brainstorming session. If DVAA has to pay in order to make repairs or a new roof happen, we would like a guaranteed lease of at least 5 years, with payment for the roof in exchange for the lease. We also plan to use the newsletter to try and find a DVAA member who has grant-writing experience, in order to find funds for the roof and possibly fund the HVAC project. We also planned to get up to three written estimates from reliable, local businesses. We hoped for more concrete information from Jay, and we decided to request a time-line form him for the roof project.
The board voted in favor of joining the Turners Falls Business association, as long as the cost doesn't exceed $350.
We also continues our discussion regarding hiring musicians to play at our receptions and publicity events.
We voted to add several events to our 2010 calendar.
July 10: In conjunction with our reception for the second show, we'll conduct our
second annual "Artist's in Action." This is also the date for the Turners
Fall's Park Event. The Turner's "Block Party" is Aug. 14.
Aug. 21: We'll host a live music event on the Lawn, with Kevin Slattery's band, the Walter Mittys.
Sept. 25: We'll host a scholarship fund-raising event, "Harvest Moon Jazz Benefit." The money raised will help fund scholarships for art students at Turners High, and F.C. Tech. Since the June 17 meeting, Lisa Henry has talked with art teachers at both schools, and they are very excited about the event. They may help with the application process/portfolio review. And the students may be willing to participate in the Fund Raiser.
